The house is quite as DH has taken the kids to the farm. That means they'll come home crabby, hungry and covered in mud. But I have a quite house. I might actually be able to do a decent post for once. Sorry if my posts seem so disorganized. I really enjoy blogging but having to go back and re-read it, etc just doesn't work for me.
I think it's time I jump on the band wagon with my thoughts about the young mom who had 8 baby's. When I first heard the story I thought WOW. Great, overwhelming, I hope they are all healthy and thought I'd try to hear more in the days to come. But then, it all started:
Single mom with 6 OTHER kids
I believe it's 3 of them are special needs
Lives with her parents
No dad
a result of IVF.
The last point makes me sick and probably the one that I harbor the most frustration with. Once again IVF is going to get a bad 'rep' by the media. It's not enough that in the last 3 years we have Hollywood starts doing IVF right and left, having twins, etc and it seems to be this trend to do IVF, but now we have this single mother having 8 babies.
I'm disgusted with the doctor that did this. No way in HECK should more then what 3 embryo's had been placed in this lady. No way jose. What was he thinking!? Ahh yes but then there's the it's her right to do with her body as she wants. (an entire different 'political' post about that) But look, now society is going to be raising these kids. YOUR tax dollars will be hard at work raising them. I'm telling you, she will live a better life then me and my 5 closest friends combined. She even said in an interview that she's going to go back to school b/c she can get financial assistance and use it to raise the children. I can't remember who was doing the interview, but they asked, 'Do you think that's right?' she replied 'It works'.
Infertility is a tough disease. I've been there, done that. Many of my blog readers/'followers' (i sound like i'm referring to those people that think Obama is our savior, please don't ask me for a new kitchen) have or currently suffering thru infertility. But my doctors (RE-Reproductive Endocrinologists) that Ive seen at each transfer will advice me how many to put back, we actually discussed this before we even started infertility treatments. I'm not sure if there is any legal issues with how many to put back, obviously there's not, but I think most clinics have general guidelines on it. Of course I never created enough good embryo's to have to decide how many.
I think the doctor in this case, should be held responsible to some point. In what way should he be? I'm not sure maybe he should give her his house that he lives in from making his millions treating infertile couples. Maybe he should help babysit/care for them. Mostly I guess he should have his license taken away. He can go practice out of his garage.
I guess I'm not sure how anyone can be held accountable b/c it doesn't matter at this point. The baby's are here, we as a society will raise them, and at some point life will move on and in 5-15 years they will be forgotten.
I'm mostly hurt/frustrated at the image of infertility is once again slighted. We want people to be aware of the disease. But then something like this happens and the next time you try to talk to someone about infertility there first question will be, 'Will you have 8 babies by doing this?' No that does not need to happen. A responsible RE will make sure they do not put you at risk of that. A healthy 32 yr old women, that has produced a good amount of embryo's could be successful with 2 or 3 transferred.
You know I just had a thought, sooner then later, I bet we're going to find out that the sperm donor is some 21 year old college kid just trying to make some money to put himself thru college, and now he'll want a piece of the media pie to tell his story. Goll darn. That is what will happen. See how media works!!
