Ahhh...now really, if this doesn't either turn people away from my blog or start some conversation I'm not sure what I'll do. I fully realize that not everyone, or maybe anyone, will share the views I do. I am a Conservative. I am that b/c of a number of reasons. Not only financially (oh how i wish in my own spending i didn't have to be) but as well at my morals and values. I am aligned with the Republican party b/c i believe they most closely align with my views. I'm sure i will continue to touch on why I am a Republican in the weeks and months to come.
But for today I must just say i continue to be very cross with my teeth. I am really about to have them pulled and be done with it. I don't know what to do and neither does the dentist. We have doubled up on antibiotics and I'm taking 800-1000mg of ibuprofen every 3 maybe make it to 4 hours. At any rate I'm cross and don't feel like writing to much deep witted stuff. Did I mention that when mommy is cross, the kids are REAL stinkers. GRRRRRR
So with that, I asked my buddy 'Doc' to write something for me in regards to politics. He obliged and did it very promptly. Expect to hear more from him in the weeks/months to come as I think he is a man that really has some valid points. He is closely aligned with John McCain and even has 2 voice mails on his cell phone from him thanking him for his work. With that take a moment and ready what he says and PLEASE comment. Tell us what you think about what he said. Tell me why you are a Conservative, Liberal, Democrat, Republican.
The one thing we have to show the rest of the world is that our word is as good as it gets - if we don't want to be involved with the other countries - we need to drop out of treaties we've signed - we need to drop out of every other international and regional pact we belong to. We must be able to provide every service and material we need - from manufacturing to oil/gas/fuel/food. When we have achieved that and really don't need any other country - then, we need to shut down all transportation in and out of our country - we need to build a fence 50' high and place our military on that fence to keep us in and others out. Along the oceans, we would need to do a fence and a trench - where possible, fill the trench with shark and alligator to make sure anyone who stumbles into that area - they are instantly eliminated. We would not need our ports to ship "stuff" or receive stuff - therefore, the wall and trench would not affect traffic.
As we move in this direction, we need to take over Canada and Mexico -
Doesn't this sound like a real solution? No? Well, then we need to make what we ARE doing work - somehow...

Does this mean no more Carribean cruises or winter trips to Mexican resorts...?! Darn...
The following was emailed to me:
Do I reply to all or post it on your blog? My oh my oh my oh my do I have a lot to say about this topic - although not necessarily about "doc's" post. Yes - I have tried to stay away from politics - especially if I know I differ on the topic and don't feel like getting involved in a nasty back and forth. YET - I am so incredibly tired of seeing the direction of this country - that you have inspired me to speak up - if only to you :)
If it were John McCain running 4 years ago, or 8 years ago that is against Bush, of course I would have supported him. I supported him more back than but I think over the last 4 years or so he has become a yes man of sorts in the republican party - and I admit - there are many aspects of the republican party that I do not like.
I'm a democrat - and although I'm probably considered fiscally conservative - I believe in more of a safety net for those that are down and out on their luck than that which the Republican party probably advocates. In some ways however, I think like a libertarian. I don't want the government imposing their religious or moral values on me. I'm happy when elected officials have them and use them to make their own decisions. I don't want them mandated in schools, etc. I don't think the government should have a say in who marries who and what sexual orientation is considered acceptable.
From college on, most republicans I have met come from well to do families and didn't seem to work as hard as those of us from more humble backgrounds. Perhaps because of that, they all seemed out of touch to me to anything happening beyond their country clubs and vacation homes. They're all about the military but I don't seem to see them serve. In my neighborhood, the McCain signs are in front of homes with overgrown lawns. They are typically group houses with 3-4 guys - all white - with SUVs parked out in front and some with confederate flags in their windows or on their walls. The Obama signs are in front of houses with families - typically well kept.
Families making under 250k per year (um - we are one of them...) will pay FEWER taxes with Barack Obama's plan than with John McCain's plan. Research it. It's accurate.
However -that's an aside - because I vote with my heart more than with my head. Barack Obama is truly, the one candidate to date, that has most inspired me in my adult life. What stood out for me from the beginning was that when Obama was asked a question - he answered that question as honestly and directly as he could. I have become so accustomed to prefab sound bites that this was the most remarkable thing for me about Barack early on.
I'm not voting for someone because of their list of accomplishments. I'm voting for a President because I trust he/she will make a decision I can respect. Who could have predicted 9-11? How different the world would have been had Obama been our president then. I believe we would be in a better and yes safe place had he been our President. The next four years will be so unpredictable - I simply want someone who's judgement I will trust.
Barack Obama also gives me hope. When I look at he and his wife - I see folks (albeit higher achievers than me) that are grounded in reality but fueled by dreams of making the world a better place. Better education, better health care, a better America - not one that is so divided by haves and have nots.
I support the military - I'm currently a military spouse - and lived through an 18 month deployment however I did not support the war in Iraq. I did support the war in Afghanistan (as did Obama) and think we should be doing more in Africa in countries like Darfur and Sudan even though there are not clear cut exit strategies or oil reserves to strategically justify it.
His wife- who is not running for President - did nothing for me until I heard her speech last night. What was remarkable to me was how unremarkable it was, yet what an impact it made on me. Work hard, appreciate your parents, love your spouse and children and speak the truth always. And yes, work hard again. I can't even think I'm in the same league as Michelle Obama. However, I'll admit - I probably don't work as hard as she does - but maybe I should.
Everyone has tried to make race an issue and I think so many of Obama's supporters are forced to think about race - only because it's not at the top of our minds. We agree with Obama's positions on issues first and foremost. This may be the year that we won't have a white family in the white house and that would be awesome. When I look at the Obamas, I don't see a black family - I simply see a family that inspires me - a family whose morals and judgements I admire and agree with.
OK, enough said, back to that hard work that Michelle Obama talked about. I need to stop complaining that I need to work full time and juggle everything. We're all doing it. That's part of what makes us Americans I suppose.
You asked for it Rae..........this is the longest political diversion I have taken in some time!
Emily
Sorry, not too clued up on US politics but I did enjoy watching Hilary and Obama go at it when I was in the US in May this year.
Oh, and admired Al Gore in the previous election!
